Diamond Comics have launched their Sales figures for the month of May 2012, including the placement of Astonishing X-Men #50 - The much media hyped issue where Northstar proposes to Kyle.
ICv2 list the issue at

27
ASTONISHING X-MEN #50 $3.99 MAR 57,931

So, looking at the title as a whole:
Astonishing X-Men #50 - 57,931 - The proposal issue + 2 Variants
Astonishing X-Men #49 - 31,291
Astonishing X-Men #48 - 34,182 - The first issue of Liu/Perkins' run featuring Northstar + 1 Variant
Astonishing X-Men #47 - 30,490 - Last issue of Greg Pak's run
That's a pretty steep climb, and #51 should see even greater numbers.
If we compare these figures to Alpha Flight Volume 4:
#8 - 18,408 + 1 Variant
#7 - 18,416
#6 - 19,316
#5 - 20,731
#4 - 23,242 + 1 Variant
#3 - 24,872 + 1 Variant
#2 - 26,862 + 1 Variant
#1 - 46,851 + 1 Variant
#.1 - 25,775
You can see why Marvel felt the need to have this storyline be in an X-title, from a purely financial point of view.
