I'm hoping he just has a biting sense of humour.
If not...i'm not sure how I feel about his comments, if they are meant just as he said them.

Uh... wow! Coming from who it does, that really seems hypocritical to me. He's the individual most responsible for things like the term 'graphic novel' and making sure comics are unsuitable to younger audiences (okay, you can't blame him for the first, but I believe Watchmen hugely helped popularise that term!)... and now he's whingeing that his own work has caught on.

The only way I'd take Moore's comments seriously is if he were to take some of the blame for the state he sees the comic world in today. Like Mik said, Watchmen is one of the major influences on the dark and gritty stories for "grown-ups" that seem to be the target demographic today. He was the original one who wanted to take some of those characters intended for 9 to 13 year old boys and make them for adults. He wanted to use the Charlton heroes, but when told no, he "created" very obvious analogous characters. Blue Beetle became Nite Owl, The Question became Rorshach, Capt. Atom became Dr. Manhattan, and so on.
Personally, I don't think he believes any of this stuff he says, and is just having his own private joke by poo-pooing on anything and everyone just to stir up stuff.
Wouldn't that make him a troll?
Well, I have to say Moore has me pegged down perfectly.
How so?
Yep, I'm male and older than 9-13, and emotionally damaged - but I hate the kinds of stuff he's talking about. And writes.

Old snob who writes 'too edgy' and 'too deep for you' wank for pseudo intellectual twits and thinks his **** doesn't stink.

I've got to say...he is something of a pompous windbag, isn't he? That said, i don't necessarily disagree with everything he says...I just think that biting the hand that feeds you, and then expecting that hand to KEEP feeding you, is a bit over-pretentious and melodramatic...

I agreed with his comments on race - I'm noticing more and more lately a cultural obsession with 'proving' that every white person is racist always - but the rest; just garbage. He isn't obsessed with rape because there's other things in his stories, too? Dumb.
He's had a rape scene in every story of his I've read, except one which made sure to at least mention the concept, which is a large part of why I went off him in the first place.
(But according to him I ignored the ultra-violence and general unpleasantness. Nope. That was the rest of the reason.)
If he thinks superheroes are (still) exclusively for children, why write all that nastiness into them?
I don't like his comics, and I don't like him in interviews. (Several of the comments say he's nice in person. Maybe. I can't confirm or deny that, nor do I care to find out.)
